About Us

Established in 1976 by James R. LeFaivre known by family, friends, and clients as Jim. Jim graduated from Towson College with a degree in education. He later received his master’s degree from Johns Hopkins University. While working as a teacher at Woodlawn Elementary School and Later Glyndon Elementary School, he started a construction company working mainly during the summer break building additions and other home renovations for friends and coworkers. Realizing that construction was his true passion, he took a leap of faith and left teaching to continue his construction company full time. Jim initially operated by building homes in Baltimore, Howard, and Carroll counties. He obtained his Maryland Home Improvement License in 1983 and began to specialize in that industry.

Jim and his wife Patty had five children, three daughters and two sons. All his children at one point or another had some experience in the business. His sons worked every summer with the carpenters and Jim, learning carpentry and how to treat a client’s home. In 1996, his oldest son Matt joined the company full time. After studying business management at Franciscan University, Matt was brought on to implement new technology in the company. Matt designed the very first www.lefaivre.com website in 1996. He implemented estimating and scheduling software. He also studied AutoCAD at Carroll Community College under Professor Ed Goldberg, an architect teaching at the college. Designing became a passion of Matt’s and led him to study and learn all types of residential design including new homes, additions, kitchens, and bathrooms.
